“The Silent Patient is a shocking psychological thriller of a woman’s act of violence against her husband—and of the therapist obsessed with uncovering her motive.”

Synopsis of The Silent Patient, by Alex Michaelides

Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word.

Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety. The price of her art skyrockets, and she, the silent patient, is hidden away from the tabloids and spotlight at the Grove, a secure forensic unit in North London.

Theo Faber is a criminal psychotherapist who has waited a long time for the opportunity to work with Alicia. His determination to get her to talk and unravel the mystery of why she shot her husband takes him down a twisting path into his own motivations—a search for the truth that threatens to consume him….

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 Stars!

The Silent Patient is a quick read that will get you emotionally invested in the characters and leave you guessing until the very end, and even when you think you have it figured out, just know that you have no idea.

I pride myself on being able to solve a mystery before the last page, and this one I only “figured out” literally as the secret unfolded in front of me. I truly had one of those “WHAT?! Wait a second!” moments that I really couldn’t believe I didn’t see coming. I love when that happens!

I would give this book 4 out of 5 stars, and definitely recommend it to anyone who loves a good suspense. (For the record, I don’t give out 5 stars very easily. I think I’ve only ever done it twice).

Sadly, I don’t have this one available in the ABWL shop, but you can check it out on Amazon, or order yourself through the Book of the Month Club. Subscriptions can be made in 3, 6, or 12 month memberships, and members get the perks of adding on additional books for only $9.99 (and if you’re a reader like me, you know that’s a steal for new releases!) If you use my link to sign up, I believe we both may get a free book out of the deal, so win-win.

Leave a comment and let me know what book I need to check out next! I’m always looking for new books to add to my reading list and collection!
