A HUGE thank you to author Kate White and Wunderkind PR for gifting me an ARC of this book!
Average Goodreads Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3.66)
“After losing her husband Derrick, in what appears to have been a random street crime, thirtysomething Emma has built a new life with widower Tom, who is kind, handsome, driven, and successful. Emma is finally able to feel safe again, both in her relationship with Tom and in the home they’ve made together on the Connecticut shore.
Then one day a homicide detective shows up at Emma and Tom’s door asking questions. Though Emma had been cleared of her husband’s murder, it appears that law enforcement is taking another look at her and the case.
What exactly have they found? And will the renewed investigation ruin Emma’s chances for a happy life?” – Jacket Cover, The Second Husband
My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5-⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3.5-4 stars)
I was pleasantly surprised by just how engrossed I became in The Second Husband. If you’ve been here for awhile, you know me enough to know that thrillers are always my go-to genre, and I pride myself on my sleuthing skills. I equally love, and hate, when I guess the plot twist.
I’m a complicated reader, what can I say?
I’m also not super quick to hand out 5 star reviews. The criteria for landing a 5 star rating from me involves either:
a) making me bawl and not stop, and/or
b) give me something I am still thinking about for days after finishing.
And just for good measure let’s add in c) be as cleverly crafted as Gone Girl or Sometimes I Lie when it comes to plot twist.
So even though this one didn’t get 5 stars from me, I still really enjoyed this book. I’ll be honest – my detective skills lead me a little astray, but that’s on me, and that’s okay. The storyline itself was fast paced, and there were enough layers to keep you guessing (obviously since I didn’t guess anything right).
Would I recommend this book? Sure would!
