Survive The Night by Riley Sager: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Charlie Jordan is desperate to escape. Her roommate and best friend was recently murdered; the third victim of a serial killer known as the Campus Killer, and Charlie can’t stand being at school any longer. Desperate to get home, she accepts a ride with a stranger who claims to be going the same direction as Charlie.
Josh Baxter, the man behind the wheel, is a stranger to Charlie. The longer she sits next to him in the passenger seat, the more details she starts to notice; stories that just aren’t adding up, a driver’s license with Josh’s
picture but a different name, and something hidden in the trunk that he doesn’t want her to see. As more miles begin to pass, Charlie begins to grow more and more suspicious. Could Josh be the Campus Killer? But every time she thinks she can escape, something holds her back. Is Josh really dangerous, or is Charlie’s anxiety just a figment of a film reel playing in her mind?
Survive The Night by Riley Sager: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Man oh man. This is one book that loves to get hate on Goodreads and social media. And honestly, I’m surprised by that.. I feel like the whole world loved Verity and I hated it, and I really liked Survive The Night and the rest of the world hated it. Maybe it’s me. Maybe I’m the problem. Oh well. I’m comfortable enough with myself to embrace my flaws.
Was Charlie slightly more than obnoxious more times than not? Okay yeah. Was the fact that she couldn’t differentiate the real world from her made up movies in her head annoying? A tad. Was I able to guess the Campus Killer within the first couple chapters? Obviously. But this book held my attention from the first page, I finished it within like.. a day or two, and guys – I LOVE an unreliable narrator. Even when I can’t stand her, even when I am screaming at her that she’s being stupid (and oh my gosh Charlie was stupid).
While I was able to guess the killer, there were some plot twists in here that I didn’t see coming, and while I won’t spoil it for you (this isn’t Book Chat after all), I freaking loved the ending. It’s about time something like that works out in the way that it did. I won’t say more – my lips are sealed. (So go read it so we can discuss!)
I’m going to tell you to add this one to your TBR stack but don’t get mad at me if you hate it. I’ve already warned you the rest of the world’s reviews weren’t good. But it’s a quick read, unique storyline, and satisfying ending.
